Located along the north west coast of Northern Ireland, a major part of Newcastle's appeal is its location. Surrounded by spectacular scenery, where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea to the long sandy beaches, theres no doubt its an area of outstanding natural beuaty.
Throughout history many poets, artists and writers have been drawn to the beauty of the area. It was a firm favorite of the Irish nobility of the 18th and 19th centuries. Some have been moved to put pen or brush to paper by the magnificient scenery surrounding the town, while others have found the tranquillity of the area an ideal place in which to develop their creative talents.

For example the Bronte Family which gave the world the authors of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, are reputed to have spent a summer in the town along with many other celebrities over the years. The town was once a place of employement to the world famous poet Seamus Heaney. The town is also home to the celebrated children's author Martin Waddell.
Today though, the town strives to meet the needs of the modern day tourist and has provides special appeal for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Recently Newcastle has seen major investment with a new multi million pound streetscape and promenade.
